This Japanese flat scraper-type tool is designed for finishing the bottom of shallow grooves when wood carving.

Unlike gouges or knives, this tool does not dig but levels and cleans the surface , allowing you to obtain a flat, regular and clean bottom.

It is particularly useful after using a V-gouge or a shallow gouge, when you want to:

• smooth the bottom of a groove

• correcting minor irregularities

• to achieve a clean finish without altering the overall shape
