The “Indō” carving knife (also called kogatana or kiwa-tō) is one of the fundamental tools of wood carving.
Its sharp edge allows for the creation of clean incisions, precise contours and fine lines — which distinguishes it from the flat chisel (hira-tō).
The right or left version is not linked to the dominant hand: artisans use left/right depending on the orientation of the motif to be sculpted .
