This very shallow Japanese gouge is designed for surface finishing , with a barely marked curve, close to that of a flat knife.
Unlike a round or even shallow gouge, this version preserves the cut marks , giving a deliberately textured and lively finish.
It is particularly appreciated for visible finishes , when one wishes to retain the character of handcrafted work.
Compared to a flat knife, the attack is softer , allowing for progressive and controlled work, ideal for finishing with small, repeated strokes .
The blade is made of HSS steel , offering excellent cutting performance and good wear resistance.
