This Japanese chisel, made by Iorikura, is a specialized tool called an L-gata nomi , meaning an L-shaped chisel , designed to access difficult areas, particularly for recessed cutting work. It is also known as a kubikiri nomi , a chisel used for neck-cutting , essential in flooring installation or for cutting the base of tenons in wood joints.
Its shape allows access to areas impossible to work with a conventional straight chisel, while maintaining excellent precision and control. With a total length of approximately 240 mm, it is perfectly suited for interior finishing work, delicate adjustments, and tasks where a straight edge would not be sufficient.
Each tool is handcrafted: dimensions, finish and weight may vary slightly from piece to piece, which is normal for this type of traditional Japanese production.
