The Nankin Kanna Hon-Nagakuni is a traditional Japanese plane designed for precision work, curved shapes, and delicate finishes. The term Nankin Kanna refers to a compact and maneuverable plane, particularly valued for carving, interior work, and details requiring fine control of the cut. Its small size and specific geometry make it a versatile tool, ideal for narrow pieces, gently curved surfaces, or intricate adjustments.

The blade is forged from Blue Steel (Aogami) , a high-performance Japanese steel renowned for its long-lasting edge, exceptional edge retention, and high strength. The body is made of Japanese white oak, a hardwood traditionally used for its stability and ability to transmit cutting force without excessive vibration. Like all handcrafted Japanese planes, it requires initial sharpening, fitting, and some adjustments before use to achieve its maximum performance.

Each Hon-Nagakuni plane is handcrafted, meaning slight variations in size or finish may occur from one piece to another. Several blade widths are available, allowing the craftsman to choose the tool best suited to their work: 24 mm for narrow areas, 30 mm for general-purpose use, and 36 mm for slightly larger surfaces.
