This Japanese sole-dressing plane , manufactured by Motonagakuni , is a specialized tool designed for flattening and correcting the soles of Japanese planes . Unlike a conventional plane, it is designed to work the wood of the dai (plane body) with maximum precision.
The angled blade (Isuka) improves penetration into the wood and allows for a smoother, more controlled cut, ideal for precisely squaring oak soles. This type of mounting is particularly valued for achieving a perfectly flat and even surface.
The Aogami steel blade offers a sharp and durable edge , while the Japanese white oak sole, prepared to a thickness of approximately 24 to 27 mm , ensures stability and longevity.
Like all traditional Japanese tools, this plane is delivered not ready to use : sharpening of the blade and adjustment of the sole are necessary before use.
Each piece is handmade ; slight variations may exist from one piece to another.
