This small Japanese plane, forged by Kensuke Yamamoto (4th generation of Yamamoto Kanna Seisakusho), is a Koganna made using the traditional method of complete carbonization called sumiyaki (charcoal-firing). This process gives the steel exceptional hardness, high thermal stability, and increased edge longevity.

The blade is made of Blue Steel #1 (Aogami #1) , one of the finest Japanese steels, prized for its cutting edge, durability, and ability to produce a smooth finish on both hard and soft woods. The plane's body is crafted from Japanese white oak, a dense and resilient wood, carefully fitted but requiring final shaping. Like all handcrafted Japanese planes, it is not ready to use: initial sharpening and precise adjustment are essential to achieve optimal performance.

Each piece is handcrafted and may exhibit natural variations, making each plane unique. The tool bears the “Kensuke Saku” stamp as well as the “Aogami” inscription, marking its authenticity and origin.
