About the blacksmith
This hammer is made by Hiroki Aida , a Japanese blacksmith trained by Ko Saburo Hasegawa , a renowned master in the making of traditional hammers ( genno ). This lineage guarantees exceptional forging quality , remarkable precision, and perfect balance.
A genno is the Japanese hammer used in woodworking and fine carpentry. It is designed to provide a straight, controlled, and precise strike , ideal for chisels and demanding joinery.
Funate design features an elongated and streamlined head shape, prioritizing precision, impact point reading, and stability. This understated design emphasizes function and efficiency , without superfluous decorative elements.
In Japan, the weight of hammers is traditionally expressed in monme , an ancient Japanese unit.
For Western use, here are the equivalents in grams , used in this sheet.
Each hammer is entirely handmade . Slight variations in size or finish are normal and attest to its handcrafted authenticity .
