The Motonagakuni Sotomarukanna Japanese plane is a traditional convex-bottom plane designed to shape and refine concave surfaces in wood, particularly rounded hollows, curved grooves, and sculpted profiles. Equipped with a 48 mm blade made of Japanese Aogami No. 1 carbon steel and a Japanese white oak body (shirakashi) measuring approximately 25.5 cm, it is available in four radius sizes: 120, 150, 180, and 210 mm. Each blade bears the Motonagakuni signature as well as a number indicating its radius. Handcrafted, this plane requires sharpening and body adjustment before its first use.
